How Does an IADC Therapy Session Work?

FAQS

Requirements to book in for an IADC session

To ensure the best possible outcome, please take a moment to review the following requirements before booking.

Time Since Loss

IADC Therapy is suitable when your loved one has been gone for at least  6 months - 12 months (preferably 12 months +.) This allows time for the early stages of grief to settle and for you to feel ready to explore the deeper emotions connected to your loss. However some people may feel stable in a shorter amount of time - but still desire healing.

Emotional Readiness

This process involves gently accessing and processing the feelings of sadness or longing that remain.

You’ll need to feel emotionally ready and open to reconnecting with these emotions in a supported, compassionate space.

Mental Health Considerations

For safety and wellbeing, IADC Therapy is not recommended for anyone who has experienced or is experiencing suicidal thoughts or self-harm (within the past five years).

Session Information

Before beginning, you need to have a 15-minute online screening session to confirm that IADC Therapy is the right fit for you.

The full process includes two online sessions, each lasting 60–90 minutes, and both need to be completed within seven days of each other.

Fee

The total investment is $500 AUD for both sessions.

Please note that while some people experience an After-Death Connection (ADC) during therapy, it cannot be guaranteed. The primary focus of IADC is to gently ease emotional pain and help restore a sense of peace.

ONLINE session

You’ll need a reliable internet connection, a webcam with sound, and a quiet, private space where you feel safe and comfortable during the sessions.

Unable to Travel - Too Far or don't  like online sessions?

For some people, online sessions do not feel comfortable or appropriate, and travel may not be possible due to distance, health, or personal circumstances.
Where this is the case, Dr Ramona Lever may be available to travel to the client’s location by arrangement, allowing the work to take place in a setting that feels safe and supportive.
Additional travel costs apply and are discussed in advance.

IADC Therapy typically consists of two 90 minute sessions over consecutive days, focusing on  alleviating grief-related sadness. It works best for those that are stuck in grief and cannot move past the trauma, sadness, guilt or loss.

This approach adapts elements from EMDR Therapy to achieve a higher level of resolution, creating a receptive state. In this state, many clients report a profound and loving connection with their departed loved ones, often through sensory experiences or a sense of their presence.

Individuals who undergo successful IADC Therapy commonly report a significant reduction in grief-related sadness stemming from the loss of a loved one. They often find closure for any unresolved issues in their relationship with the deceased and gain reassurance about their loved one's well-being.

Most importantly, clients frequently describe a profound sense of connection with their loved ones and a transformative shift in their feelings of separation.

It's worth noting that belief systems do not impact the effectiveness of IADC Therapy, and the treatment does not propose a specific explanation for the experiences. Whether a client views these encounters as spiritual or grounded in neurobiology, the healing benefits remain consistent.

Is there a time frame for having an IADC session?

Grief is a deeply personal journey, and each person heals at their own pace.

Allowing time after the passing of a loved one gives your heart and nervous system space to process the initial waves of loss.

When we give grief that space, an IADC session can unfold more naturally, offering comfort, connection, and genuine healing rather than reopening raw emotion.

Waiting around 12 months  - or at least 6 months in some cases, helps ensure that you’re emotionally ready to receive the experience with peace and clarity.

Mediumship vs IADC

People often ask how IADC differs from mediumship. While both involve connection with loved ones who have passed, they are very different in how they work and what the client experiences.

Mediumship

In mediumship, a practitioner (medium) receives information or messages on behalf of the client. The connection comes through the medium. The client listens, receives insight, and reflects on what is shared.

This can be comforting and meaningful, but the experience is indirect. The client is not personally accessing the connection themselves.

IADC (Induced After Death Communication)

IADC is an evidence based (has been studied) therapeutic process developed by Allan Botkin. With IADC, the client has their own direct experience of their loved one during the session. Nothing is channelled through the therapist.

Using a structured EMDR based protocol, the brain naturally opens access to the client’s internal imagery and emotional processing. Many clients spontaneously report seeing, sensing, or communicating with their loved one themselves.

This often leads to:

• Deep emotional relief
• Resolution of unresolved grief
• A strong sense of peace or closure
• Reduced trauma symptoms
• A lasting shift in how the loss is held in the body

The therapist does not interpret messages or act as a bridge. Their role is to guide the process safely and professionally while the client has their own experience.

The Key Difference

  • Mediumship: Connection comes through another person.

  • IADC: Connection happens within the client.

  • IADC is not spiritual counselling or psychic work. It is a clinical grief therapy approach designed to help the nervous system release unresolved loss and trauma, while allowing meaningful inner experiences to arise naturally.

Many clients describe IADC as life changing because the healing comes from their own direct experience, not from external messages.
